Dr. James H. Johnston, III, Dr. Billy W. Long, and Dr. James Q. Sones organized Gastrointestinal Associates in 1981. Recognizing the growing need for GI care in the metro Jackson area, the practice relocated in 1987 to our present location in the Watkins Medical Building at 1421 North State Street, Suite 203.

In 2001, Gastrointestinal Associates Endoscopy Center, a outpatient procedure facility was built to provide our patients with the latest technology and highest level of service. Located in the Rad Group Building, adjacent to the Watkins building and connected by a skywalk, patients have the option of having their procedure performed in a state of the art facility. Gastrointestinal Associates, P.A. and its shareholder physicians have ownership interest in Gastrointestinal Associates Endoscopy Center, LLC.

In addition to the larger facility and the Endoscopy Center, practice expansions have included additional board certified Gastroenterologist and other specialized staff, a variety of outpatient procedures, clinical trials of new treatments, and enhanced services to referring doctors. GI Associates is the largest gastroenterology group in Mississippi and one of the largest in the southeast currently including eleven physicians and over one hundred employees.

While growth and change are constant with GI Associates and Endoscopy Center, so has been our caring approach. Our physicians have a long standing history of digestive disease management, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and preventative health care management. Our goal is to provide our patients, referring physicians and the surrounding community the highest, most comprehensive quality of Gastroenterology care.
